A blanket of yesterdays
From far beyond the grasping water
Fell far and wide the mood of autumn
It’s colours clear if tainted rotten
A blanket of yesterdays all fiery and molten
The happy feet kicked out the past
As conkers split on strings how we laughed

As nights drew in we moved in closer
For soon upon us came the depths of winter
So now we ambled in bracing brazen thunder
As stormy skies flourished by late October mist
We prepared to give pennies to a well-dressed terrorist
Oh how that guy burned so well first week of November

Suddenly though the leaves were mostly gone
And remaining birds sang out defiantly against the cold
But how we still thought best of this beautiful season
When trees lighten load in lieu of fresh treason
Oh terrible ending there shameful poet
